# Best Kayak Seats and Seat Upgrades Source: https://kayaknest.com/best/best-kayak-seats Updated: 2026-09-15 Publisher: Kayak Nest. Our score is an editorial rating out of 10 (fit 35%, features 25%, build 20%, value 20%), not a customer rating. Method: https://kayaknest.com/how-we-research#our-score The stock seat is where most boats cut cost, and it is the part you notice by hour two. Numb legs and a sore lower back usually trace back to a backrest that pushes you into a slouch or a pad that flattens under weight. Seats vary in how high they sit, since a raised frame improves visibility and paddle clearance but costs stability, and in how they mount, since track systems, straps, and clip rails are not interchangeable. We weighed back support and adjustability, padding that stays supportive when soaked, and whether the mounting hardware fits common hulls without drilling. Low-profile pads suit touring boats where stability and a tight fit matter. Framed lawn-chair seats suit sit-on-top anglers who sit for hours. If you paddle in cold water, a seat that drains and dries quickly is worth more than extra cushion. ## Picks ### 1.
